The Road Less Traveled in Healthcare

The road less traveled in healthcare is that of 1 to 1 relationships and patient advocacy culture.

No where is this more palpable than in Home Care services, where the majority of Agencies and their representatives peddle for patients that represent only the bottom line for them.

These are not ALL healthcare organizations and certainly not ALL agencies, but you know who they are on either side of the spectrum the moment you start a conversation.

As a consumer, patient, family and advocate there are a few things that you should look for in anyone approaching you with elder healthcare services or products.

  • A general curiosity of how you are doing, beyond their specific services or products. In other words: What do YOU need?
  • A good knowledge base of the local Healthcare arena and the players in it. Community programs, specialized services and facilities.
  • Find out about not only their company, but the individual’s background relative to the services or products in question or topic.
  • Talk about their ability to deliver before you get into the “cost” conversation. When it comes to personal services, the former is more important at this stage.
  • Do they have a personal story of their own? Why are they in this business?

Remarkable Healthcare pretty much comes down to all of us, the more we learn and do, the more we can all help each other :-)
